WENDELL NORMAN
Obituary
Wendell H. Norman, age 79, passed away in Temple, TX on March 11, 2017 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded at death as he was in life – with family and friends who loved him. A kind, generous, and humble man, he dearly loved his wife Sheila as well as his children, grandchildren, brother and sisters, cats, music, and the beach.
Born June 25, 1937 in Post, TX to deceased parents W.H. and Millie Mae Norman, he was a cotton farmer in Plains, a craftsman, and a jack of all trades. He could build just about anything, and when it was time to rebuild, he would build something else out of the materials left over. He married Mary Jane McCord in 1966 and had two sons, Michael “Chris” and John who survive him and daughter Marla who preceded him in death.
In 1988 he married Sheila Fillingim and moved to Ruidoso, NM in 1993. They built an amazing life in a beautiful mountain home that Wendell constantly improved using his construction and building talents. He worked in many facets of construction, including building condos and home remodeling.
He loved the beach, and looked most at home in a beach chair watching the ocean with a cold beverage in his hand. They traveled whenever they could, creating many treasured moments together and with friends and family.
Wendell is survived by his wife Sheila as well as sons Chris Norman and wife Linda, John Norman and granddaughter Mackenzie, step-son Blaine Fillingim and his daughter Jazlen, step-daughter Jenifer Luce and husband Sean and their children Conner, Cambrie, and Chloe. He also leaves behind his brother Lendell Norman, and sisters Patsy Wylie and husband Tommy and Penny Sappington.
A celebration of life will be held on April 1, 2017 at 1pm at the Grassland Church of the Nazarene. Share your memories at www.wendellnorman.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Humane Society of Lincoln County (http://hslcnm.org) or http://LiveStrong.org.
